Well what an incredible day for a trail run, especially with
the weather we are going to have over the next week. Renee,
Amy, Jeff, and myself where all in attendance for this 10
mile out and back course. The race starts in a parking lot
with 231 people running about 20 feet before it funnels down
to a muddy double track trail, once out of the mud, it funnels
down again to a single track trail. This went on for about
a 1/10th of a mile or so before you run under Rt 93. Great
time to pass, but you have to run at an awkward angle. Once
out from under the bridge there is enough room to pass and
get into your pace groups. The first 3 miles of this course
run right along the river and is pretty flat. But don't let
that fool you, as the announcer said at the beginning of the
race, because the next 2 miles are up and down hills. Then
you have to turn around and do it again. This course was great,
the trails were hard packed with some stream crossings and
a couple of bridges with some small water falls. I have to
say I like the out and back versions of races because I was
looking for the black and yellow jersey's so I could yell
out some encouragement to my fellow Crank Racers. A good time
was had by all!
