Rockbuster Off-Road Duathlon
David Alden St. Pierre 2nd Clydesdale 57:53
Jeff Hattem 2nd Males 55-59 1:06:58
By David Alden-St. Pierre:
As I mentioned yesterday, based on time allotments, I decided
to race locally, and shot down to Ashland for the Rockbuster
Off-Road Duathlon. This is essentially and all out sprint
on a short course: 1.8M trail run, 5.5M mtb, 1.8M trail run.
I was redlined from "go," and paid for it with horrible
side cramps on the second run. As a "cyclist that owns
running shoes," I suffer in the runs and make up my time
on the bike. That's what I did today too. In the end, I rolled
out with a cool 2nd place medal (Clydesdale) and a gift certificate
to TriSports.com. All that AND I got to spend time with the
family!
By Jeff Hattem:
I did the Rockbuster Off-Road Duathlon with Dave. I did not
check my emails last night and was surprised to see him and
Jean, in the parking lot, this morning.
As Dave mentioned, it was an all out sprint on a short course.
It was not to technical, and there was one major climb. My
mountain biking skills came into play, because most of the
participants were multi-sport athletes, and not mountain bikers.
Not having much experience in multi-sport events, my only
problem came in the transition after the first leg. I lost
3 minutes fumbling with my shoes, helmet and gloves. The second
transition went much smoother and I was able to cruise to
a second place age group (55-59) finish. Like Dave, I went
home with a cool metal and a TriSports.com gift certificate.
