I had a great time and am pleasantly sore and tired today. It was a
fun and new experience for me, and already I'm day dreaming about
next year. The team did an incredible job. Personally, I was happy
with my results and mostly that I escaped without serious injuries,
considering how many folks got hurt around us. The course was a
blast and a bitch at the same time. (Up=bitch, Down=blast) I was
especially thankful that the weather was so nice to us.
What a fantastic time I had at this event. And I have many people to
thank for making it so.
Thanks to Doug Salb for being a motivated and hard worker team
coordinator. He put so much into this event; registration, set-up,
practice sessions, toy mice, banners, a generator. Unbelievable! On
top of that, he hammered it every lap. Thanks Doug.
Behind Roz Puleo's laughing and smiling face was a hard-core
mountain biker who cranked each lap with determination. Even with a
spectacular endo into the mud, she kept on pushing it.
Thanks to Jason Byrnes for consistently riding strong, and actually
got faster as the event went on and pulled off his best time on the
last lap! Which actually was his 5th lap, since he and Roz did a
practice lap Saturday morning. Jason B was also our technical expert
on bike repair and adjustments.
Jeff never seemed to get tired. He was stoked every time he did a
lap, and was our fastest guy, pulling off laps between 51 and 61
minutes each time. He also did an extra lap at the end to push the
team up a place.
I didn't think that a couple of minutes would matter in a 24 hour
event but they did for us. Roz had a super strong final lap, which
set up Jason B, who pulled off his fastest lap time on his final
lap! He ran in at 11:51 am, coming in at 9 minutes under the cut-off
time of 12 noon, and allowing Jeff to do our 21st lap! This final
effort moved us up to 8th place overall.
Of course thanks to Dave Alden for working constantly on everyone's
bikes and bringing his own brand of humor into the Crank compound.
Thanks again to Doug, Roz and Jeff for hauling all of the camp and
bike gear up and back.
Congratulations to Rob and Nathan. You guys completely kicked
everyone's ass.
