Dalton 24 - Tim Corning

As we sit here and debate the subject line of this posting it occurs to Christine and I that the title could be all of the following: 24 hours of "oh my God, my ass hurts", 24hrs of having to pee every 20 minutes, "I have to do what? For how long?", "Is the baton important?", "which mud puddle did you lose the baton in", "Sure I'll hold this half of this guys leg, you hold the other" (ouch!), "24hrs of running, biking, picking up trash"...and the list goes on.

Let me explain some of the above. Our team consisted, of three Crank members...me, Zippy and Rob Fallon. I like to look at the team from Zippy's point of view..it was (follow me) his brother, his brother's brother-in-law, his brother's brother-in-law's brother in-law and Rob (nobody's brother but everybody's AMIGO).

My brother-in-law had a small but significant issue...the baton. Or should I say no baton. It's gone, never to be seen again. Mud+Planks+Endo=penelty. We did look in the mud every time we went by, but no luck. I did find someone elses but the karma didn't come around.

The most impressive lap by our team was turned in by Rob. He went out for the next to last lap. First, he stopped to help another rider with a broken chain for about 5 minutes. Then, of course, five minutes later his chain broke. This was at the 2 mile mark. He spent about 10 minutes or so trying to fix his own chain without luck. Then the trail running began. Let's not forget about his stops for goo packets, disgarded tubes, and the search for the elusive baton. Not to mention the stops at checkpoints to try and cancel his lap. (for those of you who know Rob, you know these COULDN'T have been short conversations). Let's review: assist another rider, break a chain, clean the woods, talk to volunteers, look for baton, run for 6.5 miles for a total laptime of.....1 hour 38 minuts. Good job amigo.

Overall our team did well. We managed 7th out of 14 in the division.

Obviously, congratulations go out to Rob and Nathan. That was just unbelievable. Seriously, one of the most dominating athletic performences I have ever seen.

Nice job Doug, Jason, Roz, Jeff and Jason Morris. You guys did awesome, and you beat us. Jeffs last lap time was impressive. Good job.

It was good to see Dave, next time I hope to be riding with him. Thanks for being there to cheer us on.

I'm already looking forward to the next 24 hour race!
