The
town of Marblehead put together a short "Welcome Home"
parade for its hometown boy, Tyler Hamilton.
About
500 cyclists led a short parade from Marblehead High School
to Seaside park where another thousand or so people were waiting.
People lined the streets and there were many
signs and banners in front yards along the route--it was really
VERY cool to see this much of a reception for him.
Once as Seaside Park, a steady procession
of speakers took to the stage to congratulate and honor Hamilton,
including state representatives, town selectmen, representatives
from the French embassy in Boston, and local cycling mainstays
"who knew him when..."
It was revealed that Hamilton later learned
that he had suffered a broken rib on his Stage 2 crash-- making
all that he accomplished even crazier.
