David Alden-St.Pierre
I hadn’t raced in a while. School has kept me more than
busy, so when a bike race was happening close to home (i.e.,
it’s not going to suck away the whole day), I was on
it. I knew I was in trouble though when I rolled into the
parking lot. This was a BIG race. National teams, pro riders,
even international riders… this was going to draw more
than the average local ‘cross race typically does.
Oh well, I’m there to have fun. I signed
up for the C race, got my gear ready (dropped one of my gloves
in the port-o-let), and hit the start line. A quick survey
revealed that I was the only racer on a mountain bike, and
full-suspension at that. D’oh!
Needless to say, I got pummeled. Beaten.
Squashed. Squished. Obliterated. Destroyed. Annihilated. Did
I mention that I hadn’t raced in a long time? At least
I wasn’t last, and I wasn’t lapped. Anyway, the
course was fun and challenging, the crowds were huge, and
best of all, I was home before noon!
