I
ran this race last year in six inches of snow. As much fun
as that was, I was happy to see that this year’s weather
was going to be reasonably mild and dry. Before I go any further,
I should mention that my goal for this race was to simply
do a half-marathon. Technically, I’m a DNF, but that’s
what my buddy and I planned to do, and that’s what we
did. Thirteen miles is plenty for me right now.
Anyway,
I ran this race with my friend Karl (from Pedro’s),
and one of his friends. A couple of other Crank Racers were
also there, including Jay & Amy Curry. I ran with Jay
for a while, but he’s an actual runner (i.e. fast),
and Amy was running the ultramaration, so I only saw her briefly
as our laps crossed. Incidentally, Amy took third for the
women’s 50M.
This is a great race with fun trails, excellent
volunteers, and yummy snacks at the stops. I finished my first—and
only—lap in a little over two hours, and shortly after
that Karl came in. He stopped for a moment as he was contemplating
doing another lap (which I would have killed him for because
I would have had to have done one too), but the effort it
took him to take another step told him he was done. About
30 minutes later, we were rewarding ourselves with pancakes!
Next year, I swear, I’ll run the whole
thing!
