At some point while I was scrambling up mud covered rock and tree roots I renamed the
race the Slick 7 Bitches. It was definitely an interesting course with constant undulating
single track – had it not been for the fantastic attitudes on the course it's doubtful that I'd
be looking forward to doing it again next year – hopefully in dryer conditions. I wound up
"running" a large portion with this guy who had done it all 14 years, and another man who
had just run Boston – both said this is one the toughest races they have on their calendar –
not quite what I needed to hear at mile 4, but their good humor was a fantasitic distraction
from the conditions - not to mention the spectacular views at the top and post race grub.
Of course once I got in my car for the drive home, I committed it to memory as one of the
best races yet. I may go out there again before the Jay if anyone is interested – weather
pending of course.
