This is the first year I've done this race, and I must say I'll be back. It is a short (5k) and fast race, held on the rolling trails of Maudslay State Park in Newburyport. Because of this, it is really more like a cross country race. But, it is a great test of fitness, and that is why I'll be back.
Sunday brought clear skies (finally!) and perfect conditions. There were 250 runners, and I started at the back of the pack. I had been rehabing an injury and just hoping to finish. I felt really strong after 8 minutes, passed a number of runners on the two climbs, and then decided to run for time. A strong finish got me 124th place. Not great. But good enough to let me know I'll be doing some Grand Tree races this summer.
