So I was on my way to campus for another loooong day of studying when I passed a mass of people getting ready for what I later found out was Portland’s annual “Portland Sea Dogs Mother’s Day 5K.” I had my running stuff with me, I had 15 minutes until the start, and I figured I could afford the short delay in hitting the books.
The weather sucked, but about 1000 people gathered for the race. It wasn’t anything like any of the major muddy races the rest of you have been talking about, so I can’t really complain!
Twenty-four minutes later I was back in my car, and a few minutes after that I was on my way to school. My time was, of course, slow because of the massive burden of my upcoming finals (that, and the fact that I’m slow)! I was ONLY about 9 minutes off the winner’s time, so I’m sure I could have caught him if I wasn’t under the stress of school, old, out of shape, slow, slow, out of shape, slow, not a runner, and not so slow.
