I
just thought I would share with everyone the trip out to do
the Death Valley 30k trail race. First, let me say that Death
Valley was incredible—lots to see and do.
The race was held on West Side Rd. which
parallels the same road the Badwater 135 is held on. The course
started with a 2-mile downhill to the valley floor. We were
roughly running about 280ft below sea level. There was no
shade on the course and the sun was pretty strong. Temps were
in the upper 70's to low 80's and very dry. I finished and
was bone dry even though I was drinking a lot—everything
just evaporates off of you.
The course was pretty flat, and it was an
out and back. So you had to run the 2 miles or so back up
hill at the end. The four of us from the Lynn Woods group
ran well and would make you guys proud. Dan was 4th in his
division, Steph was 1st in her division, Amy was 2nd in her
division, and I finished 1st in my division. The race director
said that the race had people from 30 different states and
6 different countries. It was a fun race, well supported,
and a beautiful course. Nothing like running down a trail
at 280ft below sea level and seeing mtn's around you that
go up to 11,000 ft.

My race # was 5323 and Amy's was 5322. Just type in Death
Valley and click on the 30k done on 2/4/06
