I just got back from the Sea Otter Classic
out in California. Woohoo, what a venue!!
My first race was the Sport Women Short Track.
It had been raining, so the course was ridiculously muddy,
and by the time I raced, the rain and wind had started againl.
The race director decided to shorten our race to three laps,
since the sport men only completed five laps during their
17 minute hammer fest, and for their race, the rain wasn't
falling. Good enough for me!
We take off and I dart into the front. I
stay in the lead with two other women and I trail their wheel
for the beginning of the first lap. The two women ahead of
me get stuck in an uphill mud puddle, but try to trudge through
it. I jump off my bike, and run it past them, leap back on,
and head downhill. I stayed in the lead the entire time and
won the race! It was very exciting to get the chance to be
on the podium at Sea Otter.
My second race was on Sunday, the Sport 30-34
Women's cross country. This was a beautiful course. Looooong
climbs, fast descents and beautiful scenery. I was strong
for the entire race and felt great for the entire 19 miles.
I stayed in fourth place up until the very end when two women
in my class passed me, so I ended up in 6th place out of 13,
in 1:55. I was really happy with my time and my performance,
especially considering that we don't have the hills they have
to train on!
