The 1st MTB race of the season started with
a 2 1/2 drive in the rain, then Snow, then Sleet, and finally
Hail. The previous races by the Beginners, Experts, and Pros
turned the loamy sections of the track into chocolate pudding.
I lined up on the front row and grabbed the hole shot to avoid
the crowds when we hit the mud wallows.
I gave up the lead for good after half-mile
and settled into some “interesting” muddy climbs
and descents. After training this winter to get out of granny
gear, I finally made it into the top half of the field and
picked up some championship points, too.
I’m psyched to continue in the Eastern
Fat Tire Association (EFTA) championship series in May.
